Intro to Coordinates

My reflection:
I had to use the coordinates to work out who shall win.
My success criteria was: 1) I can use letter coordinates to find locations on a map

• I know the first letter relates to the position on the horizontal (x) axis
• I know the second letter relates to the position on the vertical (y) axis.

    I have achieved this criteria.
I am still learning to follow coordinates.
I need to improve on knowing which one comes first bottom row or the column at the top to work out were it is.
My next steps are to use coordinates with numbers.

Tell me the time

My reflection:
I had to click and drag the clock so it is the right time on each clock.
My success criteria: Move the hour hand and the minute hand to show the correct time. 
I think I did the speed bit well because I just came back from choir and I finished it quick.
I feel proud of this because I think my learning levels are going up.
I can now efficiently tell the time or do tasks like this in a little amount of time.
My next steps are to do the same thing but with digital.

Bug masks

We went out into the sensory garden to show of our bug masks and also for fun a bit.
We went and hid in the bushes while Miss Fisher took a photo so she could make a slide for other people to see like now.
We did this because we have a very strong interest in bugs and so we could show off our art.

Six sentence stories

My reflection: I had to make a six sentence story either about a bug, a insect or a skink.
I can successfully make a six sentence story without any help.
I need to improve on the last paragraph and making at a bit shorter.
My next steps are to make a six sentence story for little kids to read. 

Lets judge a book by its cover.

 My reflection:
I had to make justified predictions by looking at the title cover and blurb.
I can modify my prediction by looking at the cover blurb and title and getting more evidence.
I am still learning to make justified predictions.
I need to improve on being more specific with the what do you notice about the cover.
My next steps are to read the book and see if my justified predictions are right. 

How many weeks, days, hours and minutes?

My reflection I had to work out how many days hours and minutes until the end of school using a hundreds chart. I think I did the working out bit well because I may have not got everything right but I think I am on the right track.The most challenging thing was to count up the minutes because all these number are flowing through your head and one mistake and you must restart so overwhelming. My next steps are to do this but from the beginning of the year.

Equivalent Fractions

My reflection:
I had to drag the equivalent fraction to the other one with the equals sign next to it, then I had to publish this to my blog.
I think I did the speed of it well cause at first I couldn't do it cause I had no more time and I had too much stuff on my plate but then when Miss Fisher gave us the last minute to complete it I got it done in the session.
I feel happy about this cause I am starting to getting a bit more efficient at these things.
The most important thing I have learned is if you have 2 fractions and you want to see if they are equivalent you take the first fraction's denominater and multiply it with the second fractions numerator and the answer will be on the second fractions denominater   

 

The Lockdown

My reflection: I had to write a recount about the lock down in then we had to publish it on a doc then after that onto our blog. I think the amount of writing that I did went well because usually I don't do this much writing. I feel happy about that coz I feel that my writing has improved. The most important thing I learned is that lock downs  MAY be important but they still are stupidly boring. My next steps are to carry on writing this amount of writing when I write. 

Plan for speech

My reflection:
I had to pick a topic on what I must do my speech on  then I had to plan my hook, what I believe, reason 1, 2, 3,  some facts to go along with the reasons and a conclusion. Then I had to do a draft of my speech at the bottom. I think I did the draft bit at the bottom bit well because when I practiced saying my draft it was a decent time. I need to improve on getting a bigger conclusion. My next steps are to present my speech in front of a big audience. 

Figurative language

My reflection I had to highlight all the personification bits in the box above and all the phrases or words that make one of the characters feel something. My success criteria was to understand your figurative language. I can understand personification so if anybody talks, about it i will not need to have a minute to think and spend a period of time trying to remember what it means. My next steps are to do my own writing with figurative language.

Identifying Persuasive Techniques

My reflection:
I had to identify all the different persuasive techniques and explain and highlight all the techniques and publish this to my blog.
 I think I did the reasons well because I got so much detail with the reasons and I did it in such little time.
 I feel happy happy about this because it was a hard and fast piece of work and it actually turned out good.
 I can now fluently understand the different techniques without trying to remember them for a period of time.

Comparing numbers

My reflection:  I had to choose which set I had to answer so I choose set four and then I answered it. I think I did this reflection bit well because I did this whole post and reflection in like abut 5 minutes! I feel happy about that because I am on task and nothing is distracting me. I can now blog post even more quicker than before  cause before my blog posting time was a little bit slow. My next steps are to try more than one set.

Wonder portrait activity

My reflection: I had to make a poster and in that poster I had to choose my face, hair, eyes and  accessories then I had to write my name or as they said it, tag your masterpiece so I did with my name which can be seen above the medium sized WONDER at the bottom or you can find below the avatar portrait.

I think I did put the image up well because it took a tiny amount of time and with that I had everything sorted and it was a good start.

The most challenging think was I think doing the reflection because I needed the blog post help reflection sheet to help me and I was a little bit off track.

My next steps are to make my own precept I guess!

My inspirational song

Understanding the place value system.

My reflection: I had to use all my knowledge and answer the questions then post it to my blog. I think I was sort of good at the speed of doing the activity because I when it was my first time doing it I did it hard and fast. I can now understand the place value system.My next steps are to do more equations with decimals.

               

Explanation writing

My reflection, I had to write an explanation on how to make a bug habitat. I can understand how to lay the piece of writing out and know what linking are.  I am sort of still learning to write an explanation.
I a most proud of all the detail that I did. My next steps are to convert explanation writing to a speech.

A day in the life, Wonder activity

My reflection:
I had to write my thoughts of what it would be like to be August Pullman (From wonder.) for a day. I think i did  the title bit well because honestly before I had no idea how to lay it out. I need to improve on adding more detail and adding even more detail. My next steps are to do more storys like this

Reading with expression.

I had to practice reading the passage until I was confident enough to put it up on screencastify. (Screencastify is a video recorder and there is different settings so you can choose how you want you video to be displayed and stuff like that.)

 I can now upload a video to my blog without having to try to remember like oh no let me try to remember this.

 I am still leraning to Read the words accurletly without leaving words out. I am most proud of the part I got the starting point on time because when I started the video I started to read straight away.

My next steps are to read a bit more fluently and with even more expression and to know when the video has ended.

Critiquing an explanation.

My reflection:
I had to highlight the different parts of the explanation and then I had to post it to my blog.
I can understand the different parts of a explanation.
I am still learning to identify the features of an explanation.
My next steps are to do my own explanation writing.

Explanation writing examples.

My reflection:
I had to read each example and then I had to write and highlight all the patterns I noticed, The features I found are: The introduction, the conclusion, all the facts, sequential words and 3 red firstlys.I think I did the highlighting bit well because I think I did so efficiently and it was quite well from my perspective. I can now under stand the different parts of a  argument. My next steps are to write my own examples.

Kallum's well balanced argument

My reflection:    
I had to state out the positives and negatives on a table (The grid table.) in my writing book then I had to arrange most of the pros and cons and make a draft of a well balanced argument then I had to make a google doc and write everything from my draft onto this google doc and last but not least I had to publish it to blogger like this! I can efficiently layout my plan of action in my head and have everything sorted. I am still learning the writing frame and practicing the layout. The most helpful thing was having a plan because when I had all the ideas there and then I was all sorted to do the draft so I could do it hard and fast. I am most proud of all the detail because each paragraph is all fat and juicy. (To me.) my next steps are to focus on having a better conclusion and actually summing the argument up.

Balanced argument examples compares to SC

My reflection.
WALT identify the features of a well balanced argument.
I had to read the argument and highlight the different parts of the story with different colors.
I can now remember the important parts of a argument or a speech.
I think I did well the highlighting bit because I noticed this straight away and I was on task and I knew what to do.  I feel happy about this because it really means allot to me on writing and doing speeches and this kind of stuff.   My next steps are to have a little bit more detail to my comments

Insect mouthparts

My reflection. I had to watch a video of all insect mouth parts and  how to tell them apart then I had to take all the information and put it on here with the screen shots. I think I understood what to do and I felt extra happy about that because usually I do not get these type of things but now I can do it. I want to know more of Insect mouth parts and how they work. My next steps are to go into more advanced ¨information report¨ activities.

Lake Baikal

I had to ope this google doc and get the information from the book and put it on the doc as answers.I think I did well with all the adjectives and detail.I felt great about all the progress I have worked with this because it took for ages and it started to developed very well until I got the swing of thing. My next steps are to come up with even more detailed answers.

B.I.D.M.A.S

In order to work out the equation i had to, look at the question, follow the operation order and work out what the answer was but with the operation order. So for example (3 +5) x 2 =? I would follow the operation order and look that there is brackets first so would do the brackets first, 3+5=8 then i would do the carry n going down until I see that i am up onto the next order I need to do  x 2 which would be second in the operation order. so the first answer that I came up with I would keep that in my head and the second part  which would be x 2 i would bring the first answer 8 and then the second x 2 so 8 x 2 is 16. and that is how you work it out.

Ko - ahau I am.

I had to think of adjectives and stuff like a colorful tie and then we had to make a google doc so we can post the poem the poem that we wanted.It went pretty well when I had all the knowledge for all the stuff to explain me and I just knew what to do. it felt great having that ability to just have the whole thing pop up in your head. I can now make an image a back round on a google drawing.MY next steps are to Put more detail and adjectives.

The brain

We had to research all the answers to he questions about the brain and put it up on this slide.I can put photos up that I made and put it up on the slide. I need to improve on adding more detail. MY next steps are are to put more adjectives.

Hau ora activity

I had to apply all the answers that apply and add them below which category It goes in. I did well remembering the Maori words before putting the English words up. My next steps are to practice more and more and more Maori. I enjoyed looking at all the colors! because I love all colors 

That was summer

I had to write a poem about all the things that I did  in summer that was hot and I had to form it into a poem, then I had to publish it to a google doc then I had to publish the doc to blogger and write it with a reflection like this.   I think I did the separate paragraphs well because they all look like they are in a neat formation to me.MY next steps are to do more detail.

Welcome post 2018

Welcome to my Year 5 learning blog. This year I am in room 25 and my teacher is Miss Fisher. I enjoy singing. A goal I have is this year to get into the soloist again. (If their  is any choir.) I hope you will enjoy my blog and give lots of feedback!
